30 - 60 - 90 describes the conceptual exploration of innovative housing solutions in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. This thesis is based on a conceptual co-housing system designed to provide secure homes for those with limited means. Because of the tectonic challenges of the region, this project emphasizes the use of local, robust materials like bamboo, merging affordability with durability.
Every space designed was 30, 60, or 90 square meters. A big theme was tied to the thesis – the sustainability of Manila, the capital of Philippines. By integrating this theme, the focus was on sustainable design concepts relevant to the local context using strong, growing, and local materials.
This journey involved seeking out the perspectives of the community, understanding how they experience life in Manila and how sustainable practices intersect with their daily lives. As an essential part of the design process, a survey was created to discuss topics such as sustainability within personal spaces, the concept of co-housing, and the balance between privacy and community.
"How can we compose an ecologically mindful solution to provide affordable and secure homes for the lower middle class, ensuring they are equipped to resist both earthquakes and floods effectively?"
